Usual Suspects for Thames Cup

From Eights Head Results

1829 - was their Head crew fully TC eligible? If not probably weakened slightly. Have tragetted the TC this year.
London III - Fully TC eligble and strengthened by two guys from London I and one guy from London II apparently. Expect a fast 8, with at least 1 fast 4- &/or 4+
Thames - 3 guys in the eight ineligble, weakened to qualify for TC. Should target Brit or Wyfold.
Notts & Union - Unknown quantity, reached the final of the Wyfronts last year.
Molesey III - TC eligble?
City of Bristol - Surprisingly high finish, keep an eye out for these guys. TC eligble?
Scullers II and III - must have a respectable eight from those two crews. Have targetted the 4+ but could also have a fast 4-
Henley - not as good s last year's crew, like Thames should target the fours.
Nottingham RC - Unknown quantity
Commercial Dublin - Unknown quantity.

There was only 18 seconds between all these crews, which suggests that they would be roughly within 2 lengths of eachother over 2km.

Early season results.

Wallingford

Elite 8's - 1829 set the pace with Thames & Henley not far behind. Molesey further back.
S 8's - 1829 set the pace again, not much to read from the other results.
E 4- - Thames ahead of Scullers
S 4- - Star Club, worth watching?
E 4+ - Thames ahead of Henley and Notts & Union
S 4+ - Scullers a long way ahead of Bristol

No London at Wallingford or Ghent (3rd string crew was there)

Poplar and Notts City should give a better guide to form before Met.

Reasonably inaccurate, especially based on the Head results.
Just wait til Met. Things will fall into place a bit more than - a lot of clubs still sorting boats - London targeting TC, but with a very quick light 4 for Wyfolds, Thames the 8, Notts a four of some sort - suprising they're not targeting Wyfolds after last year, Scullers will have a crack at the 8 no doubt: they keep licking at old wounds, Henley may be suffering some politics, but they'll still be fast come Henley.

Any Northern crews known about?

Met will show - some crews will run from events that are seen to be hot. Scullers 4+ looks in a good class, even though they're rough, Thames / Henley / NC seem in the same sort of bracket.
8 is open - 1829 not as fast as everyone thought, or even they though.
Wyfolds - no real show so far

Ok, I'll expect it; I'm standing by. But how should I behave if I see the fast 4- or 4+ from Notts and Union. Just stay calm and carry on? Avoid eye contact and back away slowly? Please advise.

Oh.....you mean two of the guys from last year's 4- who aren't at uni and the two guys from Henley's 8+ last year who aren't at Uni.....

Union's crew last year were a flash in the pan. The two guys from Henley who are there this year are a class act, but don't delude yourself that Union are suddenly going to go Mach 10. TSS have the Brit sown up, London will win both the Thames and Wyfold.

Bit early for that kind of chat! Would love to see it happen though, maybe not Scullers winning the Brit but the rest sounds good.

Bang the drum and all that.

Can we please stick with the new name for TSS, namely TWSS. This has been used several times now on the Henley thread, and seems to suit them quite well.

I think he was referring to the guys from Union who are at Loughborough eg Jon Walton who did the Diamonds last year and won Champ singles at BUCS. I would say that he was in with a shoud of getting into their top four.

That is a pretty bold statement to say that London will win both the Thames and the Wyfold. They have done it before though so we'll see.
