The news announcement on the GB Rowing site seems decidedly man based. Plenty of mentions of boys schools, the inevitable Eton plug, good old Maidenhead but nothing about eg Headington which seems to have supplied a far greater proportion of the women than Eton did of the men. And were some clubs/schools kept down to one entry so that GB could leave them out of the announcement while plugging their own favourites?

Does the fact that one school has half the GB places suggest more that GB rowing should put less emphasis on

London pigeon please.
take 1 pigeon (dead). pluck, skin and remove innards. fillet using a sharp knife. marinade fillets in olive oil and herbs for a couple of hours. place on barbecue until cooked. leave to cool and slice thinly. place between 2 slices of buttered bread. add lettuce and cucumber and lightly season with pepper.

I think GB rowing are quite lucky that there are so many private schools out there to make up for the lack of funding and that there are so many dedicated people who aren't funded or who don't get much funding. Where would they be without Eton, Westminster etc etc and those clubs who are probably not so well funded but who give all they can. Would love to know how it works in NZ (see other blog!).

To add some balance who do the girls reckon is the fittest bloke? And which male coach was the fittest?

Sad to say there does seem to be a bit of truth in this.

A greater proportion yes but less individual athletes. Who cares about proportion of athletes, the girl rowing ain't as good as the boys rowing - schoolboy and international. Stop whining that you didn't get your name mentioned when the girls are very mediocre this year.

Who says that girls rowing isn't as good as guys? All you ever do is look away or insult them - but to be very honest, girls rowing especially at school level is just as good as boys and the races are just as exciting.
They train just as much and as hard and just because they don't beat you on the erg it does not mean that the sport is any less important.
Girls are having to battle harder and for longer than the boys to receive any recognition at all.

Quite agree. Also they don't spend their time on self promotion on this website.
